Mamma Mia! I found my favorite summer t-shirt at Mimoï!

When Isabelle from the Mimoï pattern brand released two jersey tee-shirt/dress patterns back to back, I knew I was going to fall for them!

First because cotton jersey is super comfortable even when it's hot... Who doesn't wear a tee-shirt or top in cotton jersey during the nice season?

But also because Isabelle always creates trendy patterns, well thought out with original details... in short, you get it, I really like her work.

Between Confetti and Mamma Mia, her two new models, my heart wavered.
I finally gave in and sewed the Mamma Mia tee-shirt, I have to say its very original detail caught my eye the moment I received it!

So, ready to discover this model and my versions including a surprise?

It's right here!

Mamma Mia by Mimoï in tee-shirt version and the Cobalt model by Caledonia Dreamin in short version

The model

Mamma Mia is a pattern with a simple, minimalist cut but with that little detail that changes everything: a pretty teardrop-shaped neckline.

To dress this teardrop, it's the perfect time to use a pretty jewel button that adds elegance to the model.

Mamma Mia is quick to sew and pleasant to wear, this pattern comes as a dress or tee-shirt depending on your desire and the season.

A comfortable cut, easy to wear daily; I fully approve!

Practical information for sewing this model

Mamma Mia is available in PDF format like all Mimoï patterns.

The offered formats are A4 / US Letter compatible and A0 for those who don’t want to tape 😉. A little extra, seam allowances are included and it is possible to use overlays to select only your size.

The required sewing level is beginner.

Sizes offered range from 32 to 52 for a height of 168 cm.

You receive two versions: dress or tee-shirt

The estimated sewing time is about 1h30, perfect to fit into an afternoon.

In the seamstress’s basket

Mamma Mia is designed for stretch knits like cotton jersey, modal, viscose, linen...
The required yardage is above in the table.

To sew Mamma Mia, you will also need supplies:
- Stretch needle, for machine sewing assemblies
- Twin needle, stretch special, optional but makes hemming easier
- Stretch fusible interfacing
- Decorative shank button (diameter as you like)
- Stay tape to support shoulder seams and prevent stretching
- Thread or cones for the serger

My supplies

I chose to work with cotton jersey for this first version, I had a leftover piece from an old joly coupon of 3m and it was perfect to test the Mamma Mia model before diving into other variations of this model! I have plenty of ideas to hack it, that is to say transform it.

The first idea I had was to turn it into a dress with a skater skirt... if I were you, I’d read through this article 😉.

I rummaged through my box of threads and buttons and found a perfect lonely jewel button.

Technical points

Mamma Mia, even though it is designed for beginners, contains some technical points including:
- sewing a facing on jersey
- making sleeve cuffs
- applying lastin/stay tape to stabilize shoulder seams
- topstitching the teardrop and making the hem.

The sewing booklet is super complete and will guide you step by step with clear diagrams and intuitive progression. I found it well detailed; it was perfect to follow each step very easily.

My sewing experience

I chose to cut my model in size 32 because the Mamma Mia tee-shirt is designed with a lot of ease. I wanted a tee-shirt a bit closer to the body.

Usually, with Mimoï, I sew size 34 or 36... so I decided to size down and I’m happy I made that choice.
I find my tee-shirt perfect!

For assembly, I used the serger and sewing machine because attaching the facings is really simpler and prettier when done with the sewing machine.

Anyway, to sew Mamma Mia and topstitch the teardrop, you will need to use the machine. You can’t sew it entirely with the serger 😉.

However, I assembled the sides, shoulders, and sleeve cuffs with the serger for a quick and efficient result!

I stitched my hem with the sewing machine and it’s perfect!
I confirm Mamma Mia sews quickly and it’s very satisfying as a sewing project.

I think it took me 1h30 to sew it as Isabelle mentions in the description. If you are a beginner, allow a bit more time.

After this first tee-shirt version, I challenged myself to hack the pattern and transform it!
