Santa Claus's list from the son's sweethearts: The best gifts to give to embroiderers, knitters, and crocheters!

Are you out of ideas for year-end gifts for yourself, your wife, your granny, your sister, your cousin, etc.? Their common point: they love working with thread! Whether in embroidery, knitting, or crochet, they enjoy twisting, knotting, feeling cotton, mohair, silk, linen, alpaca, lurex, and sequins under their fingers... and more!

So don’t look any further, Granny Crochet aka Céline, Mrs. Knitting aka Marie Hélène, and I, Mrs. Embroidery, had fun compiling the best gifts to give or treat yourself to, so you won’t be disappointed at midnight under the tree. My two partners who teach crochet and knitting courses helped me select quality products that really please and that you’ll find on the website and in store.

PS: A note to our friends, this gift list applies to us too, so feel free to pick from it 😂!

Here we go for the smart gift choice!

Let’s start with common gifts that are useful for these three fiber arts...

1. A magnet or a needle case to always find them.

Tired of losing your needle while embroidering, your wool needle for weaving in ends? Tired of getting annoyed searching for it on the floor, between the couch cushions...?

The solution is clear: the magnet! I’m a big fan of this little tool that stops me from getting frustrated searching for my needle. Not only is it useful, but it’s also very pretty! There are some beautiful ones with great designs: cats, creative tools, floral patterns...

Since this year, we also offer you a rosewood wooden case to store your needles and carry them everywhere!

Needle case budget: from €6.99 for a magnet

Wooden needle budget range: €4.99

2. Small scissors, thread cutters and thread cutter pendants.

Whether I’m embroidering or sewing, I always use a good pair of small embroidery scissors when making my projects. Embroidery scissors are small, fine scissors with sharp blades. They allow you to cut all the little threads so the work looks just as "nice" on the front as on the back. They also allow you to cut the "length" of thread needed for embroidery. They are also very useful for knitters and crocheters to cut their yarn.

I like to use the classic thread cutter but also the pendant. This one can be worn as jewelry and I take it with me every time I go on vacation. It passes airport security and allows me to sew and embroider on the plane.

Budget for good needles: from about €5

Classic thread cutter budget: from €3
Thread cutter pendant budget: around €20

3. Embroidery needles, for tucking in threads but also knitting needles!

Classic embroidery, sashiko, kogin, it makes all the difference!

We always need needles whether it’s for:
- embroidering with needles which obviously means knitting! but also to embroider the faces of our dear crochet amigurumis, crochet or knitted cuddly toys
- tucking in the threads of our crochet and knitting creations
- sewing the linings of our creations, sewing the back of a small child’s blanket...
- ...

We have chosen to work with several quality needle brands: the French Bohin (from Normandy), the French DMC (from Mulhouse) but also the Japanese Olympus (for sashiko) and Tulip for all thread arts!

These are needles that will not disappoint you in any way! We wanted to work with several brands so that every artist can find the tool that suits them best!

We are really happy to offer you this year the Japanese brand Tulip, which offers needles for embroidery, tapestry, sashiko, kogin, beading, sewing... In short, for everything! Plus, the packaging is really beautiful, making it an excellent gift.

So we also offer you a great brand: Chiaogoo!
Made of bamboo or steel, Chiaogoo circular needles are really practical to use. Plus, the advantage of circular needles is that they take up almost no space! You can take them everywhere, including on the tram without bothering your neighbors, or even in a well-known flat-pack furniture store while waiting for your husband!
Circular needles will especially allow you to make seamless sweaters and cardigans or easily knit small diameters.

For straight needle lovers, we have DMC, they are really chic!

And for those looking for a "big" gift, we offer luxury knitting needle sets, a gift that really brings great joy!

Needle budget: from €2.5
Knitting needle budget: from €3.5

Knitting needle kit budget: from €67

4. A good book

Whether inspirational, technical, or pattern-based, a creative book is always a pleasure!

In the shop, we have selected books:

- knitting: child, baby, adult, socks, sweaters, accessories, techniques (circular, stitches, jacquards...)
- embroidery: classic, cross stitch, sashiko, kogin, needle painting, punch needle...,
- crochet: accessories, amigurumi, clothing, interior design
- dyeing
- sewing
- upcycling
- patchwork
 - ...

We have carefully selected them so you have the best in creative literature. The books are sold only in-store (not through our webshop). It will be a great opportunity to visit us and discover our Aladdin's cave 😊.
Book budget: from €9

5. Thread, thread, and more thread

I think everyone knows it... You can never have enough!

For embroidery, we invite you to discover DMC moulinés, the reference for cross stitch but also classic embroidery!

It must be said that DMC has been an institution since 1746; they’ve had time to improve the quality of their product to fully satisfy the user! I must admit I love ❤️ my embroidery thread box. Stored on their cardboard, my colored threads form a colorful rainbow just waiting to be used.

DMC stranded skeins are truly a must-have for embroiderers. You can buy them individually or in preselected kits. The advantage of thread kits is that the colors have been chosen to match well together, so if you have trouble imagining the final look of your color choices, you know that with the kits, it will be well coordinated.

They come in bright colors, pastels, ombré, more natural floral colors... in short, there’s a choice for every taste.

If you like adding glitter and metallics, the light and diamond threads will also find their place in your project box!

For crochet and knitting, we have also selected beautiful threads from DMC!

100% merino wool, alpaca,... plain, multicolored,... fine yarn, thicker...

You will find what you’re looking for!

Cotton or eco vita merino stranded skein budget: €1.85 each
Thread kit budget: from €12.5
Storage box with cardboards budget: €6.99
Yarn ball budget: from €1.65

6. A gift card

For those lacking inspiration, the gift card remains a great option.

People can use them for supplies, courses... to use once or multiple times, in-store or on the webshop... It’s up to you!

Now let’s move on to useful equipment for crochet and knitting

7. Yarn bowls and wool winders

Tired of tangled yarns and knots in your balls? Then why not give a yarn bowl as a gift?

Place your ball in the bowl and thread the yarn through the spiral opening on the side of the bowl. Since the ball of yarn can move and unwind freely, you can focus on knitting or crochet in peace. Plus, it’s a very beautiful object 😊

The wool winder will allow you to transform a ball or skein of yarn into a practical yarn cake. The yarn winder is also ideal for dividing large skeins and hanks of yarn into smaller quantities.

The yarn winder is also handy when you want to rewind leftover yarn into a ball.

Thanks to its sturdy base, the yarn winder stays firmly on the table or floor.

8. Stitch markers

Among the essentials in the knitting and crochet kit, stitch markers hold an important place. They allow you to place markers, highlight different parts of a work in progress. When knitting a seamless sweater, you eventually knit the front, back, left sleeve, and right sleeve all in one piece.

It goes without saying that knowing who is who – thanks to stitch markers – is essential! They also help highlight repeats in lace or jacquard patterns.

My advice: have some open ones, so you can reposition them, and some closed ones for ease of use.

9. Blockers

For a perfect result in crochet and knitting, you need to block your work!

We suggest blocking your granny squares on this wooden square blocker from the Katia brand.
The wooden board with holes comes with a set of 20 stainless steel rods, 10 cm high, and 5 sewing needles, 7 cm long.
This board also features a hollow section to place the rods.
Moreover, on one side of the blocker, there is a ruler with measurements in centimeters and inches. Get granny squares the size you want in each of your next projects!

It’s just perfect for making cardigans, blankets, bags,... in granny squares.

We also offer blocking mats and blockers for knitting and crochet.

10. A good crochet hook

Whether for crochet or knitting, you need good hooks!

You wouldn't think you need a crochet hook for knitting, but it will save you from the most dreadful situation: dropped stitches! In this case, it’s the crochet hook, not really the needles, that will help you recover the lost stitch(es) and work back up to the current row of knitting. A must-have, even if you try to avoid using it!

For crochet, of course, you will need good quality hooks, the size of which depends on the size of your yarn.

For this, the kits and pouches are perfect to have a top crochet set!

We have chosen to work with the brands DMC and Tulip.

11. A creative kit

In crochet and embroidery, it is possible to give a complete or to-be-completed creative kit depending on the brands 😊

We offer you lovely kits to create:
- amigurumis
- crochet cushions
- baby crochet supplies (stacking rings, mobiles...)
- crochet bags or sashiko embroidery
- classic embroidery
- sashiko hana-fukin kits
- sashiko placemats
- sashiko cushions
- ...

They make great gifts for beginners but also for the more experienced who will be happy to follow and discover new patterns.

12. A course

Experiencing something is always a great gift, especially for the younger ones who love making new discoveries!

In knitting, crochet, embroidery, or sewing, learning the right techniques from the start is essential!

We offer courses in these various subjects from beginner level to the most advanced.

Céline, Marie Hélène, and I will be happy to introduce you or help the more experienced to progress and above all to share our passions with kindness.

Discover the full range of courses here.

Here is our selection done 😊, we are delighted to offer you these beautiful quality supplies so you can give (or treat yourself to) lovely gifts for the holidays!

So, get your needles ready!
