Wanted T-shirt by Vanessa Pouzet

In January 2020, I made quite a few resolutions, including one that was quite difficult for me: to stop buying clothes that I can sew myself.

So, when taking stock of my wardrobe, I started thinking about making nice tee-shirts that I could wear both at home and at work.

I was charmed by this model, which is a pretty tee-shirt with a square neckline that gives it a sexy side without being vulgar.

Several sleeve lengths are offered: short, retro, 3/4, and long sleeves.

I chose the model with retro sleeves that stop just above the elbow.

I find it pairs perfectly with a skirt or pants; it’s exactly the model I was looking for!

The first model shown is in black jersey bought on sale at Chipote et papote last July. The second model is in a floral and delicious jersey with strawberries. The fabric comes from Lulu la luciole, whose collection and incredible selection of beautiful jerseys I am a fan of. Finally, the third is also in floral fabric from Lulu la Luciole, and you might recognize this fabric that I have already used to make sweatshirt sleeves. I chose to emphasize the neckline a bit more by making the band in black, which allows for contrast while remaining quite subtle.

Where to find the Wanted pattern?

The Wanted tee-shirt is available only in PDF format on Vanessa Pouzet's website for 7.90 euros.

It is available from size 32 to 48, which corresponds to a bust measurement between 80 and 108 cm and a waist measurement between 58 and 85 cm.

All Vanessa Pouzet patterns are based on a height of 1.68m.

For my part, I chose to make it in size 36 and it fits perfectly.

Note, a significant advantage, that you will receive the pattern with seam allowances included (1 cm for assembly seams and 2 cm for hems).

Which fabric to use to sew Wanted?

Like any good t-shirt, it should be sewn in jersey with good elasticity. If you want to be sure about the measurements, don't hesitate to make a toile.

Allow fabric length in 140cm width of:
- 1.5m for long sleeves
- 1.3m for 3/4 sleeves
- 1m for short, retro sleeves.

Sewing experience

Wanted is intended for intermediate-level sewists.

You can sew the t-shirt with a serger or entirely on the sewing machine.

Don't forget to equip yourself with a jersey needle and set the machine to an elastic or zigzag stitch.

You will need to assemble:
- a back
- a front
- a neckline band made of two pieces
- sleeves.
Simple, right?

The technical points are
- assembling the square neckline band
- making hems with a double needle.

For making the square neckline band, you will need to be very meticulous but also bold enough to clip the bands. This is necessary to fully open the seams and thus create a nice square corner.

This step must be done on the sewing machine for precision.

The other technical step is making the double-needle fills for which you will need to use two spools of thread for one bobbin.
Try it on a scrap if you are not used to this technique. You'll see, it's not difficult.

I must say that I am delighted with this pattern and I will definitely make more!
