Dressed as in Olden Times: 60 Stories of Clothing and Important People by Yvane Jacob at Robert Laffont Editions

Once is not customary, I wanted to tell you about the book I received for my birthday.
"Sapé comme jadis" is not a sewing book strictly speaking (so you will not find vintage patterns or sewing techniques). It is a book about fashion history and the evolution of styles. Throughout the pages, we follow the story of 60 emblematic personalities who in one way or another contributed to the evolution of fashion.

The book's format is very interesting because each page delivers a story; under the teasing pen of Yvane Jacob. Indeed, her style is original, light, and sometimes even humorous, making it a good "no-stress" read.
Moreover, Yvane Jacob is not unknown in the field of fashion history. She holds degrees in political science and from the French Institute of Fashion; she is a collection manager and buyer for the Swedish brand &other stories.
So all the stories she tells us are supported by thorough research using reliable books and sources; in other words, we have fun while learning. That is really the strength of this book!

You have always wanted to know:
- why does the Queen of England dress in flashy colors?
- why did Fidel Castro wear two Rolexes?
- why did Mao give his name to a jacket?
- How Churchill created his character through his clothing?
- why was Socrates naked under his coat?
- why Mobutu wore leopard hats?
- ...
So dive into the 60 stories that this work delivers to us.

I delighted in all these stories, each more interesting than the last. And if you want to continue the adventure, Yvane Jacob created an Instagram account "sapecommejadis" where she posts other little amusing stories. If you're interested in knowing which English woman started wearing shorts to play football and launched the first English women's football team, go for it!

The book is available for 22.00 euros, and during this lockdown period it is possible to have it delivered to your home via online sales sites.
