When my love for sewing drives me to create my designs from start to finish!

The passion for sewing has been burning inside me for several years now.
I was able to learn the basics with different teachers. I made dozens of models from various designers. And at every new stage, I wanted to go one step further. My thirst for learning led me to want to create my own designs. I wanted to be able to copy models seen on the street, in shops, or on runways and adapt them to my style and size. I looked for a course that could meet my goals without having to invest in several years of study. That’s how I enrolled in the IAM patterns patternmaking course and I don’t regret that investment for a second!

So I learned to make skirts in February and tops (and dresses) in September with Marie-Emilienne. Our group learned how to draft the basic bodice needed to construct tops. The goal was to leave with a sleeveless and collarless model and one or more models with sleeves and collars. During the course, we only had time to make the toiles and correct them; which is already a lot. So I promised myself that once home, I would make the final version of my toile.

So I proudly present to you my first sleeveless and collarless top made from A to Z; and tailored to my measurements. I must admit, I didn’t choose simplicity to create my design. I wanted to create a very feminine model that highlights my waist while adding volume to the hips. I love 1950s styles, Dior’s new look... the contrast of volumes with the peplums... In short, I knew I needed a model like that.

Moreover, my love for Japanese culture pushed me to create origami pleats on the front, and I absolutely wanted them to be two-tone.

I wanted a challenge, and well, I got one!
So, here is the final version: boat neckline, peplum with origami pleats, invisible side zipper.

I chose to make it from a beautiful cotton from the Dashwood studio brand, decorated with unicorns and stars. This is available in my shop. To line my top and therefore its origami pleats and the peplum, I chose a Japanese fabric from my stock that was desperately waiting for the right project. And there, it was magical because the midnight blue of my coupon with those little yellow and white stars matched so well with the Dashwood fabric. A real revelation, they were truly made for this design.

I loved sewing "my" top, my unique design... even if I admit it wasn’t always easy to switch from stylist to pattern maker and then to seamstress; because you have to think of everything at every step. Having lived this experience and sewn my own creation, I have lots and lots and lots of ideas for what’s next. My imagination is quite overflowing, and styling/pattern making gives me the opportunity to express it! What a joy to show you my creation!
