The romantic Nana blouse from Maison Fauve, formerly Draw me a pattern

I had spotted, some time ago, this little romantic top pattern with its beautiful bows on the shoulders, called Nana. Then, as projects came along, I had set it aside… I am not unhappy to have returned to it. I find that this camisole truly has a romantic side and a tailoring touch.

The neckline at the front as well as at the back falls perfectly.
Indeed, the pattern was designed so as not to reveal bra straps.
Emilie therefore crafted a truly well-thought-out pattern and, on top of that,… cherry on the cake, it is reversible!
You will thus sew not 1 but 2 tops at the same time.

After downloading the pattern and the explanatory booklet from the Maison Fauve website, priced at 8 euros, you will need to assemble the A4 sheets. The pattern is quite simple and will not take much time to assemble since it consists of 2 pieces: a back and a front. Moreover, the seam allowances are included; which saves quite a bit of time.
The 2 pieces of the pattern are to be cut on the fold, in 2 different fabrics if you want a reversible version with a different design.

Gala contributes to the whole project by approving the fabric choice

Each “bow part” being a continuation of the front and back pattern, you need to allow a good length of fabric, count about +/- 1.5m.
If you want to use a piece of fabric of a smaller length, you can split the bow part of the pattern at the strap and cut this piece alongside the fronts and backs. Be careful, this is only possible with a fabric having a width of 1.40m.

The technical points during the making are:

  • Making the bust darts
  • Precision in making the necklines.
  • Turning the straps and necklines with suitable and careful notching
  • Assembling the 2 tops (front and back)
  • Making the hems

There is still a small technical point after sewing, which is making pretty flat bows. My husband took on the challenge of making them himself and I think he did quite well.
To sum up, I think assembling this camisole is within reach of a somewhat resourceful beginner sewer.
Emilie offers us Nana from size 34 to 48, that is from 80 to 108cm bust circumference and from 60 to 86cm waist circumference.

For my version, I chose a magnificent Liberty Tana Lawn Betsy whose color is called Fluo Thé, bought at Stragier. For the other side, I chose to cut my 4m coupon in a rust color found at Nomura in Kyoto.
Isn’t it magnificent?

For the little story, this pattern was presented in preview by Emilie at the coupons de saint Pierre in Paris in June 2017. It had been sewn by well-known testers/bloggers in the sewing world.
This camisole was a great success, leading Maison Fauve to double their efforts to release this pattern earlier than initially planned for September. It does not surprise me; sewing and trying it on is adopting it.
