Honestly, I really got my money’s worth from my Marie Poisson book between my Briac t-shirts with round and V necklines, my Lucette dress, and now my Yvonne tank top!
I had already told you about this great book in two previous articles:
- sewing stretch fabrics
- I sew my t-shirts with Marie Poisson
and honestly, I can only recommend it to you, it’s a goldmine!

This time, I’m presenting the Yvonne tank top, a perfect strappy top for sunny days.
Yvonne can also be worn under a sweatshirt or adapted to make a dress (by lengthening it) or even a lingerie piece by playing with fabric choice and adding some stretch lace if desired.
Yvonne is offered with three possible strap placements:
- crossed at the back
- classic (my version)
- tied around the neck
This top comes in three lengths:
- short
- classic
- long
- dress version
In short, that makes 12 sewing options from a single pattern!

You can sew Yvonne from size 34 to size 52; which corresponds to:
- bust measurement between 76 and 116 cm
- waist measurement 72 to 112 cm
For supplies, you’ll need a jersey fabric with at least 35% stretch.
For the top version, plan about 80 cm for all sizes (140 cm fabric width).
It’s possible to cut the straps from your fabric.
For my part, I chose a pre-folded bias tape in fuchsia jersey which allowed me to contrast my patterned fabric a bit and make my top a bit more lively.
You will need to trace 4 pieces to make your top:
- one front,
- one back,
- one front neckline band
- one back band and straps.
No difficulties at this stage, plus the seam allowances are included and are 7 mm.

For the actual construction, no major difficulties to note except for precision when sewing the straps.
Indeed, this is the most technical point in this project, since you have to apply a jersey bias tape onto jersey fabric. I recommend basting before sewing.
The other technical point requiring some precision is sewing the hem with a twin needle.
Nevertheless, this shouldn’t stop you if you want to give it a try. This piece is doable even if you’re a beginner in sewing jersey.

I think I’ll make more for the summer because the construction is simple, quick, and the result is top-notch!
