I sewed my placemats for the celebrations 🥳!

I wanted to show you my little sewing project made two hours before my guests arrived... yes... yes, not even scared!
I hadn’t really planned to celebrate 12/24 with friends and then surprise... we will be 6. A bit rushed on the table decorations and others... I was a bit disappointed by the hastily made centerpiece with decorations recovered from last year.
Especially since I am thinking more and more about the impact of my purchases on the planet and I wanted to avoid buying only disposable, or at least little reusable items.
So, here’s the idea emerging, why not make placemats from fabric scraps? I combined my desire for beauty and goodness for the planet.

After selecting a large piece of silver linen, bought for a skirt at la Maison dorée in Ixelles (but which turned out to be poorly suited 😌 hence the merciless sacrifice),
After going through all my scrap stock,
After selecting the pieces allowing a rectangular cut of 50X35cm on the straight grain,
After cutting the 12 pieces,
After sewing with 1.5cm seams right sides together (leaving a space to turn the set),
After turning them right side out (after trimming the corners),
After closing them with an invisible hand stitch,
After carefully ironing and topstitching them at 0.7cm with silver thread,
My 6 placemats with Japanese patterns have come to life, and all on time 😊

You will recognize some fabrics that have already been published in previous articles like the turquoise blue fabric which is a scrap from my Omsk dress from the Louis Antoinette brand or the blue sakura fabric which comes from scraps of my Albizia dress.

The advantage of having them lined is that I can choose the color I want to highlight:
- or by mismatching them but staying within the Japanese style for more whimsy.
- either by placing the plain silver side for all the guests.
For the holidays, I chose the silver side by folding back the top right corner, which allowed the Japanese pattern to be seen without making it too prominent. My guests loved them.

I really enjoyed taking on this challenge, or rather this race against time.
The next step is to make reusable napkins.
And if I still have enough fabric, I plan to match them with the different sets.
And yes, I promise, there will be an article.
