PDF - Digital Pattern for Sommar Camisole by Paradise patterns (English)
The Sommar Camisole is a close-fitting top for stretch fabrics containing elastane. It features a built-in shelf bra, a front scoop neckline, and a straight back neckline; you can reverse it to wear the straight neckline at the front if you prefer. The neck and arm bands are 1/2” wide and fully enclosed. You can choose between hip-length or cropped hems. You can also make just the bra part of the pattern to create a bikini or exercise top. This pattern is aimed at advanced beginners.
You will learn:
•How to sew with stretch fabrics.
•How to sew double-fold bands for a neat, professional finish.
•How to insert a bra.
FABRIC RECOMMENDATIONS
This pattern is specifically designed for stretch fabrics with a high degree of elasticity and recovery. It will not work with stretch fabrics without elastane, such as 100% cotton jersey. Choose fabric with at least 50% stretch. The top will feel different depending on the weight and thickness of your fabric. Choose a lighter fabric around 4-6 oz/sq yard for a lounge camisole. Choose a medium-weight 6-9 oz/sq yard for an everyday top. Choose something heavier around 9-12 oz/sq yard for a more compressive, sports bra fit. For beginners, it is recommended to use cotton with elastane, as it is more stable and easier to handle than, for example, rayon. (Sometimes elastane is called spandex in the fibre content.) A ribbed knit will work with this pattern, but due to its very stretchy nature, you should size down once or twice, and it will not provide much support for larger busts. Your choice of fabric will be very important for how the finished garment fits you. Any of these fibre blends will work well:
Cotton/Elastane, Rayon/Elastane, Tencel/Elastane, Modal/Elastane, Bamboo/Elastane, Merino/Elastane.
ELASTIC RECOMMENDATIONS
Choose a soft elastic, also called lingerie/boxer/knit elastic, for a comfortable, light support hold. For a larger bust, or if making a sports top, you may want to choose a wider and/or firmer elastic, called non-roll elastic.
