The Protea Trouser is a modern pair of trousers with elegant front folds, flowing legs, and a curved waistband. It offers two methods for sewing the waistband. The first method suits light to medium-weight fabrics and if you prefer the look of topstitching. The second method is for medium to heavy fabrics or if you prefer a neat, more traditional trouser waistband. View A has front folds, View B has a flat front. This pattern will teach you some enjoyable techniques including:
- A simple zipper fly
- Your choice of top-stitched or neatly finished waistband
- A special method to keep the folds in place
- Pockets sewn into the side seams

FABRIC RECOMMENDATIONS
These trousers will look completely different depending on the fabric you choose, but I recommend something with a good fall and also something that does not stretch out as you work with or wear it. A light, flowing fabric will look lovely and airy. A medium-weight cotton/linen will look relaxed and cool. Or you can choose a medium to heavy fabric for a smart winter trouser. You won’t need pocket lining or pocket facing fabric if using lightweight fabric; in that case, you can use your main fabric.
