Xeres is a summer top for girls available from 2 to 16 years old.
The cut is oversized and short, with the top reaching the navel level.
Xeres is a lined top, so the neckline is very easy to make. A small slit at the back allows the head to pass through (it is optional for the larger sizes).
The sleeves are short and continuous with the body, so only the front and back need to be cut. The edges of the sleeves can be decorated with a gathered trim.
It is recommended to choose rather lightweight fabrics. You can choose a fabric with a scalloped edge to add some flair.
Xeres is an easy and quick top to sew and will pair perfectly with skirts, shorts, or high-waisted pants.

Supplies:
For the main fabric, choose a rather lightweight woven fabric: Liberty, broderie anglaise, batiste, light cotton, viscose, tencel… You can use a fabric with a scalloped edge to add some flair to the hem. The pieces will then be cut perpendicular to the grainline, but for an oversized woven top, this is not a problem.
The lining is cut from a lightweight but slightly structured fabric; a light poplin will be perfect. Avoid fabrics that are too soft like viscose or tencel.
– Main fabric: 40 / 40 / 40 / 50 / 50 / 50 / 60 / 60 cm *
– Lining fabric: 40 / 40 / 40 / 50 / 50 / 50 / 60 / 60 cm
– 4.5 cm of fine elastic cord and a button 8-10 mm in diameter to close the slit (usually from 12 years old, it is possible to put on the top without needing to create a slit)
– (Optional) trim for the sleeve edges, width 2-3 cm: 90 / 96 / 102 / 108 / 114 / 120 / 126 / 132 cm
* allow 10 cm more if you use a scalloped fabric or 90 / 100 / 110 / 110 / 120 / 120 / 120 / 140 cm if you want to make trims with the scalloped fabric edge.
