The Maria sweatshirt is a women's sweatshirt pattern available from size 32 to 52.

Maria is the ideal sweatshirt to combine comfort, style, and femininity. Its slightly loose cut shapes the silhouette without sacrificing ease. Its signature? Carefully crafted bust seams that discreetly incorporate a chest clip for a flattering drape. A sewing detail that makes all the difference.

Customize it according to your style and desires:

Short or long sleeves:

• simple sleeve head for a clean and timeless line.
• gathered sleeve head for a puffed effect.

Required materials

Fabric

Any version - Choose a stretch fabric: French Terry, sweatshirt jersey, fleece, minky, knit velvet, fleece.

The chosen fabric must have at least 40% stretch, meaning a 10cm strip should stretch to 14cm when pulled perpendicular to the grainline.*

You can also sew it in a sweater-type knit: in this case, I recommend sewing one size smaller.

Version B - For the front and back upper pieces, you can use a woven fabric (non-stretch) like broderie anglaise to play with the transparency of the neckline. Note that you will need to cut the back upper piece in two (with or without seam allowance on the center back depending on the chosen bias option) and create a slit to pass the head through.

Optional: matching ribbing for the collar, wristbands, and waistband pieces (these pieces can be cut from ribbing or the main fabric).

Notions

-       Matching thread, jersey needles.

-       Version A: 25 cm of 3 cm wide bias tape (or recut bias tape lengthwise, standard bias tape width is 4 cm) for the sweatshirt collar facing.

-       Version B: 1 m of bias tape and one button.

-       Fusible interfacing.

Two bust versions to multiply possibilities:

• Version A – 100% knit for a cozy look to be made in tone-on-tone or color-block: you can play with the panels, making good use of your fabric scraps to create a unique piece.

• Version B – Mix of materials: The upper pieces are cut in a woven fabric (like broderie anglaise) to add texture and subtle transparency to the neckline.

Modular, the pattern allows you to remove some panels for a cleaner version.

This pattern is designed to be assembled with a serger. Decorative topstitching is done with a sewing machine. However, it is entirely possible to sew it completely with a sewing machine.

Intermediate level - The technical skills covered include sewing the front dart, topstitching, and applying bias tape. Detailed techniques to help you progress according to your desires and level.

Size guide

This pattern is designed for a height of 1.65 m.

The most important measurements for this model are height and bust circumference.

If you are taller or shorter than the stated height, and the finished garment measurements do not fit you, you can make adjustments: you can shorten or lengthen the sleeve and/or the bodice.

If you are between two sizes, choose the larger size.
