Opal is the mid-season jacket you put on without thinking... but that always makes a little impression
With its structured straight cut, it wonderfully replaces the perfecto or trench coat for cool summer evenings or spring mornings.
Two versions are offered:
• with sleeves with cuffs and buttoned tab
• or sleeveless, with a cap sleeve that gives character to the silhouette.
You can wear it open, buttoned (6 buttons), or belted, thanks to a system of eyelets at the waist to thread a cord through.
Between its flap pockets, double topstitching, and well-thought-out seams, Opal ticks all the boxes of a pattern as pleasant to sew as to wear.
By sewing Opal, you will learn to:
Make flat-felled seams
Sew a button placket
Sew a sleeve cuff
Sew patch pockets with flaps
Opal is a jacket with a bit of ease.
Use your bust measurement to choose your size.
Take the closest size. If your hip measurement is more than 2 sizes above your bust measurement, it is better to grade between the two sizes from bust to hips.
The size chart

Jacket with sleeves:

42-52 : 185 cm of fabric (140 cm wide)
In addition to the fabric, you will need:
70 cm of thin fusible interfacing

8 eyelets (Ø 11 mm)
150 to 200 cm of cord (your TT + 75 cm)
The choice of fabric for the Opal jacket will influence both its style and its fit. Structured materials will highlight the seams and the straight cut of the pattern, while softer fabrics will offer a more relaxed look.
For a summer or mid-season version, favor cotton canvases, light denim, washed linen, or fine gabardines, perfect for a lightweight jacket with structure.
For a bolder or sportswear look, Opal can also be sewn in technical fabrics like a water-repellent canvas, a waterproof gabardine, or even a thin wadding like a light down jacket.
The essential thing is to use a medium-weight fabric, without being too thick, to make the most of the neat finishes of the pattern.
