Dress / crop top / retro skirt

Sugar Kane is a sleeveless dress or bustier crop top with a retro look. Its cut is fitted at the bodice and waist and extends in soft lines towards the skirt, skater style.

❥ Sugar Kane comes in two VERSIONS :

VERSION A : backless with ties to knot. The knot is theoretically located at the bra level, which will thus be partly concealed. However, for a clean backless look, prefer an invisible solution (no bra or strapless adhesive bra). Some models specially designed for backless dresses (with lacing system in particular) may also be suitable.

VERSION B : buttoned back with a back neckline cutout, bra compatible.

❥ Sugar Kane offers many VARIANTS also allowing to sew the bodice (which will then become a crop top) and a skirt separately.

DRESS VARIANT : The bodice and skirt are connected by a 3.5 cm belt. The closure is at the back, thanks to an invisible zipper at the skirt level, and a system of ties to knot or buttoning depending on the VERSION chosen.

CROP TOP VARIANT : fitted crop top/bustier with darts ending a few cms above the navel. The closure is at the back, thanks to a system of ties to knot or buttoning depending on the VERSION chosen.

SKIRT VARIANT: skater style mounted on a 3.5 cm belt.

❥ The pattern offers 3 skirt lengths : MAXI (above the ankles), midi (mid-calf) and mini (above the knee).

You have the choice among many fabrics to sew Sugar Kane. The more structure (rigidity) your fabric has, the more you will emphasize the retro effect with flared lines at the skirt. The more fluid and supple your fabric is, the more you will achieve a “close to the body” effect. 

Fabrics with structure to emphasize the “trapeze” effect of the skirt : denim, crepe, thick linen, gabardine, jacquard…

More supple fabrics for a drape closer to the body : poplin, batiste, chambray, fine or “washed” linen, tencel, silk…

Attention : if your fabric has no grain direction or imposed patterns (in this case, it is multidirectional), you can position some pieces “head to tail” to save the required fabric, depending on sizes. However, if your fabric has a grain direction or a unidirectional pattern, the yardage will be greater.
