Pattern printed for Sika trousers and shorts by Instinct Couture (size 32 to 52)
Sika, is the wide leg trousers that establish themselves as a wardrobe essential .
Clean, flowing, and strikingly modern, they are fitted up to mid-thigh then subtly flare to offer an elegant drape and a lovely movement at the lower leg, without ever losing simplicity.
Without a waistband and closed by a hidden side zip, Sika focuses on clean lines and precise tailoring. Its inner facing provides a neat and minimalist finish, ideal for showcasing beautiful plain fabrics as well as printed textiles.
To suit all desires and skill levels, the facing can be made in three ways :
• simple finish (overlocked) for the essentials,
• finish edged with a bias binding for a tidy interior,
• lined finish with fusible interfacing for a high-end result.
Sika is also available as a shorts, easy to wear, whether bare-legged in summer or with a nice pair of tights.
By sewing Sika, you will learn to:
Sew darts
Insert a hidden zip
Apply a bias binding with topstitching
Create an invisible finish with fusible interfacing
Make an understitch
Sika is fitted from the waist to mid-thigh. Therefore, to choose the size to sew, consider your waist and hip measurements.
If you are between two sizes, choose the smaller size. These trousers run rather large to allow you to make necessary adjustments if needed.
It is always preferable to make a toile to determine the desired fit.

Shorts:
From 32 to 46 : 90 cm of fabric (at 140 cm width)
From 48 to 52: 100 cm of fabric (at 140 cm width)
Trousers:
From 32 to 38 : 140 cm of fabric (at 140 cm width)
From 40 to 46 : 200 cm of fabric (at 140 cm width)
From 48 to 52: 230 cm of fabric (at 140 cm width)
All versions: in addition to the fabric, you will need:
– 20 cm of lightweight fusible interfacing
– 1 hidden zip (22 cm)
– 1 m of bias binding (optional, you can also make it yourself from scraps)
The Sika pattern is designed to
be sewn in medium to slightly heavy woven fabrics that offer a beautiful drape and structure the wide leg cut: a suiting fabric, a fine woollen cloth, a supple gabardine, a cotton twill, or even a light denim.
These materials will highlight the flowing line of the trousers while maintaining a chic and comfortable look.
For a softer or conversely more textured version, you can opt for a viscose twill, a flowing tencel, a medium-weight linen, or a corduroy/wale velvet.
The pattern is intended for non-stretch fabrics, but using a fabric containing up to 2% elastane is possible for a bit more comfort.
Level: 2/5
The Sika Trousers are suitable for motivated beginners eager to learn! The only technical point of this model is inserting the hidden zip, but the various diagrams in the booklet as well as the video tutorial available on the YouTube channel and accessible via QR code during sewing will guide you through making your trousers! Sika is a very good pattern to start sewing trousers (the crotch seam, the inseam) while achieving a very beautiful result!
