Pattern printed for Lyria trousers and shorts by Instinct Couture (size 32 to 52)
Lyria is the straight trouser you slip on without thinking, yet it always makes a subtle impression.
Fitted at the hips and thighs, it gently flares out from the knee to lengthen the leg without overdoing it. Its high waist, zip fly, and button make it a true classic, easy to wear every day.
Lyria takes the cues of the classic jean, while adding details that make a difference:
• a graphic cut on the front, which elongates the figure and features large slant pockets,
• a back yoke, accompanied by patch pockets,
• optional belt loops at the waistband to accessorize as you wish,
• and numerous double topstitchings, which recall the jean spirit and bring both style and durability.
And for summer? Lyria also comes as a cuffed short, an easy-to-wear, chic and relaxed version!
By sewing Lyria, you will learn to:
Assemble a zip fly step by step, thanks to a clear and accessible method
Make slant pockets and patch pockets
Sew a back yoke
Attach belt loops
Create double topstitchings (regular!) for a jean-like finish
Lyria is a trouser fitted from the waist to mid-thigh. So, to choose the size to sew, consider your waist and hip measurements.
If you are between two sizes, choose the smaller size. This trouser runs rather large to allow you to make necessary adjustments if needed.
It is always best to sew a test garment to determine the desired fit.

Shorts:
From 32 to 46: 100 cm of fabric (140 cm wide)
From 48 to 52: 120 cm of fabric (140 cm wide)
Trousers:

From 40 to 46 : 200 cm of fabric (140 cm wide)
From 48 to 52: 240 cm of fabric (140 cm wide)
All versions: in addition to the fabric, you will need:
– 30 cm of lining (140 cm wide)
– 20 cm of lightweight interfacing
– 1 button (Ø 20 mm)
– 1 trouser zip (15 cm)
– 250 cm of fusible stay tape
The Lyria pattern is designed to be sewn in woven fabrics with body, such as denim, gabardine, chino, or corduroy.
These materials help structure the straight cut and highlight the model’s seams.
Lyria can also be made in slightly softer fabrics, for a more fluid drape and a more relaxed look: a medium-weight linen, a sufficiently thick tencel, or a fine woollen cloth.
The pattern is intended for non-stretch fabrics, but using a fabric containing 1 to 2% elastane is perfectly possible and can provide more comfort.
For pocket bags, a scrap of fine fabric like cotton poplin will be ideal, to avoid bulk while ensuring durability.
