Amazilia is a short, structured skirt inspired by the college girl uniform, featuring darts and a flared style. This model has three flat pleats at the front and a tied drape. The variations allow you to customize each version: complete with pleats and drapes for a bold look, draped only for a softer feel, or simply pleated for a structured yet clean effect. For a minimalist style, Amazilia can also be made without pleats or drapes, ideal with fabrics that have a strong character.

💡 By sewing Amazilia, you will learn to:
🧷 Sew darts
🧷 Sew pleats
🧷 Sew an invisible zipper
🧷 Sew a tied drape
🧷 Make your own bias tape
🧷 Sew a facing
🧷 Sew a hem with applied bias tape

💡 Seam allowances are included in the pattern and are 1 cm unless otherwise stated.

Printed format

For this skirt, mainly consider your waist measurement. Choose the size closest to you. If your hip measurement is more than two sizes larger than your waist, it is better to grade between the two sizes from the waist to the hips.

Necessary haberdashery
In addition to the fabric, you will need:
– 1 invisible zipper (22 cm)

For the bias finish :
– about 3 m of bias tape
You can also make it yourself from the same fabric as the lining for a neat inner finish.

For the draped version:
– about 50 cm of fusible interfacing on the straight grain

The choice of fabric for the Amazilia model will mainly depend on the desired effect and chosen variations. Stiffer materials will hold the pleats well, while softer fabrics will highlight the drape.
For an autumnal version, favour fabrics such as velvet (smooth or corduroy), fine woollens, suiting fabrics, or tweed, which provide good structure while remaining elegant. For a lighter version, opt for viscose twills, tencel, cotton/linen or linen/viscose blends, or chambray for a fluid and comfortable skirt. If you choose the minimalist version, without pleats or drapes, you can turn to jacquards, gabardine, or even sequins for a sophisticated and textured finish.
The drapes are lined, requiring a lightweight lining such as cotton voile or synthetic lining; for finer fabrics, they can even be lined with the same fabric. Choose a lining in a matching shade, as the reverse of the drape may show with movement. Finally, for a nice fall of the drape, consider applying fusible interfacing on the straight grain to the long asymmetrical panel.

It is preferable to have sewn a few pieces before sewing Amazilia, especially to practice inserting an invisible zipper, but the various diagrams in the booklet as well as the video tutorial available on the YouTube channel and accessible via QR code during sewing will guide you through making your skirt!
