Model making: Pattern modification - module 1

Can't find exactly what you want among ready-made sewing patterns because there is always something you would like to change about a design? Do you have a very clear idea of the garment you want, but cannot find an existing pattern? Would you like to modify sewing patterns you already own? 

The topics covered in this module will teach you the fundamentals of pattern alteration, so you can modify a basic block or an existing sewing pattern. 

Altering a sewing pattern – module 1:

Pleats
Panel seams and style lines 

Moving or transferring a dart in a skirt or bodice

Flounce, leg-of-mutton and balloon sleeves

All these exercises use existing basic blocks, which will be made available to you during the classes.
You will learn the theoretical principles using these blocks and practise the techniques on them during the classes. 

The ultimate goal is for you to be able to apply what you have learned at home to patterns you already own and want to alter. We also encourage you to practise between classes. 
If you would like to work from a block made to your own measurements, we recommend taking the module "Modélisme: Je crée mes vêtements sur mesure".  

Prerequisites: you must already have made more than ten garments of different types (tops with darts, sleeves with gathers, cuffs, pleats, etc.).

The course includes:

• 3 sessions of 3 hours of pattern drafting, guided by an experienced teacher
• sewing on high-quality Janome Sewist 780 electronic sewing machines
• access to basic equipment: scissors, pins, thread, etc.

• Bus 71 (cimetière d'Ixelles stop) – 5 minutes on foot
• Tram 7 or 25 (gare d'Etterbeek stop) – 5 minutes on foot
• Train (Etterbeek station) – 5 minutes on foot
• Tram 8 (ULB stop) – 15 minutes on foot, or transfer to bus 71 to cimetière d'Ixelles
• Metro 5 (Delta stop) – 15 minutes on foot, or transfer to bus 71 to cimetière d'Ixelles

• Tram 7 or 25 (George Henri stop) – 4 minutes on foot
• Metro 1 (Joséphine Charlotte stop) – 9 minutes on foot
• Metro 1 (Montgomery stop) – 9 minutes on foot
• Metro 1 or 5 (Mérode stop) – 12 minutes on foot
• Train (Mérode stop) – 12 minutes on foot
• Train (Etterbeek station), then transfer to tram 7 towards Heyzel or tram 25 towards Roger, to the George Henri stop – 4 minutes on foot
• Train (Gare Centrale station) then transfer to metro 1 towards Stockel and get off at Joséphine Charlotte – 9 minutes on foot
