Sewing pattern for Women's Legging or Jegging. 
2 styles : legging for very stretchy fabric (like jersey or stretch rib) or jegging for moderately stretchy fabrics (like sweatshirt with elastane)
3 lengths : long, 3/4 or biker. No side seams. Ankle cuffs or hems depending on the length. Waistband with inserted elastic or decorative elastic in the waistband. 2 patterns for comfortable outfits, essential for the homewear or sports wardrobe. To be adapted for all seasons.

The legging has finished product measurements narrower than your body measurements to be fitted. Its pattern is designed with negative ease; the fabric will relax well and hug the body shape. 

The jegging has measurements very close to the body. The moderately stretchy fabric used to make it will relax slightly. The jegging will therefore be slightly fitted and comfortable. Its shape is between leggings and sweatpants.

What you will learn with this pattern: attaching an elastic waistband or a band with inserted elastic, attaching ankle cuffs or making double-needle hems. 

The legging/jegging is simple and quick to sew, especially because it has few pieces. It is therefore a project perfectly suited for a beginner.

Size range : 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52

This model is offered from 32 to 52 for a height of 165 cm (note: size 32 roughly corresponds to a 14-year-old for young girls). It is recommended to take your measurements and choose the most suitable pattern size. If you hesitate between 2 sizes, it is preferable to choose the size you take in ready-to-wear.  For example, I wear a 44 in ready-to-wear and a 44 in hips and bust according to the chart;  but my waist circumference is rather 86cm. I made a 44 and it is perfect! The legging and jegging should be close-fitting without being tight.

Material suggestions:

  • Legging : very stretchy material. Jersey, rib, openwork with elastane
  • Jegging : moderately stretchy material. Sweatshirt or French terry with elastane
  • Warning: 100% cotton materials (without elastane), even if stretchy, can bag at the knees with use and will be uncomfortable.
  • Recommended ribbing for the cuffs at the bottom of the long jegging legs. Otherwise, cuffs in the main fabric.

Supplies to prepare:

main fabric 140-145 cm wide (knits are generally between 140 and 150cm wide)

elastic 3 or 3.5cm wide to insert in the waistband or fancy elastic 3 to 5cm wide to sew in the waistband

* fabric requirement for the jegging in size 52 if you use a plain knit or one without direction (multi-directional pattern), take the other measurement by default if you have a fabric  with a directional pattern.

Regarding the elastic, it is preferable to measure your waist circumference and cut this length of elastic. The 2 ends of the elastic will overlap by a good 1cm to form the seam allowances, and thus, you will have a tensioned elastic that will hold well.
