Sewing – I'm sewing my first jeans

Do you dream of sewing your own trousers and jeans, but you don't dare to take the plunge because the fly zipper and bulky layers scare you?
If you have an intermediate/advanced level in sewing and are looking for a challenge for your next creations, why not come and sew your first jeans with me?

The Pattern we will make together is the Sunshine model by Iam patterns, a classic pair of jeans featuring all the traditional details. It will allow us to cover all the interesting technical points in the course. What's more, it's easy to adapt if, for instance, you want to widen the leg for a more flare cut...

During these 5 sessions of 3-hour courses, we will cover together:

- theoretical explanations on Denim, sewing Denim, specific threads, and needles to use
- the specific features of jeans (pockets,...) with a bit of history 😊
- practical applications, including specific techniques for making pockets, topstitching, and seams specific to working with jeans
- creating a Toile and making adjustments
- and finally, of course, completing your first pair of jeans with the installation of the famous fly zipper

The course includes:

• 5 x 3 hours of sewing guided by an experienced teacher
• the Printed pattern and the tracing paper needed for transfers and adjustments
• calico fabric for the test Toile
• sewing on quality electronic Janome Sewist 780 machines and Juki Kirei overlockers
• access to basic equipment: scissors, pins, thread, Japanese ruler, jeans needles…
• smiles, kindness, and respect for everyone

Required level for this course: upper-intermediate/advanced.
- You need to have already sewn several garments (knowing how to trace a Pattern, understanding piece orientation, managing seam allowances, cutting fabric,...)
- You must be independent in using a sewing machine (knowing how to thread it, adjust stitch length...)

• Tram 8 (ULB stop) - 15-minute walk or connection with Bus 71 to Cimetière d'Ixelles
• Metro 5 (Delta stop) - 15-minute walk or connection with Bus 71 to Cimetière d'Ixelles
