A very stylish top! I sew the top 5005 from DP Studio

As I said in the last newsletter, I am super happy to be able to offer you an incredible French pattern brand: DP Studio! And for good reason, its creator Dominique Pellen developed his own pattern-making method, and in the fashion world, Dominique is a leading figure!

I entered all these patterns into our database and I was overwhelmed because I like the models so much! I really like their "couture" side, very stylish... it gives you a confident look with pieces that have a strong personality. Anyway, I digress... let's get back to my choice of the top 5005.

Why this one? Well, because you have to start somewhere, and I found that this little top was simply perfect to begin my exploration of DP Studio patterns, and as you will see below, I am delighted with my choice!

So let's get started with the discovery of DP Studio and the top 5005

First, let's discover DP Studio and Dominique Pellen

The founder of the brand DP Studio (and pattern-making method) is Dominique PELLEN. Dominique developed a new method for designing women's clothing in pattern-making by flat cutting. DP Studio promotes this innovative, clear, easy, and precise method for learning, improving, and professionalizing.

The goal that has guided Dominique throughout his career is to: "preserve, transmit, share, and make accessible a know-how that allows the creation and design of garments in a 'high-end' and contemporary spirit."

All products have been designed to enable everyone to successfully carry out their creative projects.

The DP Studio team is committed to sharing its knowledge and expertise through a team of fashion professionals whose common denominator is respect for quality, precise, and meticulous work.

The model: the top 5005

I fell for the top 5005 because despite its apparent simplicity, the sewing details it holds completely charmed me.

Small stitched pleats on each shoulder and cuffs at the armholes for a structured top with a 90s vibe.

I think the shoulders are incredible!

It can be worn with slim pants or baggier ones for a stylish look, but I also see it well paired with a pencil skirt!

It is provided in two versions with a wide neckline, more of a boat style, or with a high knitted collar.

Practical information for sewing this pattern

Top 5005 is available on our website in PDF format.

It is graded from size 34 to 48, which corresponds to a bust measurement between 79 and 111 cm.

The bust measurement is the most important to consider when choosing your size because the garment is rather loose at the waist.

The guide is very easy to follow and well detailed. It is written in French and English.

The recommended sewing level to sew this top is DP Studio level 1, which corresponds to a confident beginner/intermediate level. More advanced sewers will enjoy discovering new techniques.

In the seamstress's basket

This top is to be sewn in woven fabrics such as:

- cotton: Batiste, Chambray, Liberty, Oxford/shirt, Percale, Poplin, Satin, batik, wax
- other: silk, tencel, viscose...

You will need to sew this top with
- 34-36 = 1.10 m
- 38-40 = 1.20 m
- 42-44 = 1.40 m
- 46-48 = 1.60 m

You will need to add some fusible interfacing suitable for your fabric for the neckline facing and some matching thread.

My supplies

I chose to sew a slightly summery version of this top by selecting a denim with a foliage pattern that reminds me of tropical forests. This fabric is part of our collection of joly coupons the 3m coupons at advantageous prices

I chose a H200 fusible interfacing for the facings

Finally, I selected a bluish gray coordinated thread to sew and topstitch the pleats at the shoulders.

Technical points

The top 5005 has a simple look but still includes quite a few technical points:
- sewing the pleats
- topstitching the pleats
- assembling the pleat matches on the back and front at the shoulders
- sewing the facing, notching it, and securing it
- creating the sleeves with the cuff
- making the hem.

The technical points are well explained and illustrated in the technical guide, so no worries, anyone can do it.

My sewing experience

I encountered no difficulties assembling this top; the instructions are clear and easy to follow.

I chose to sew it in size 36.

The simplicity of this top demands attention to the small details:
- matching the pleats,
- topstitching the pleats
- finishing the sleeves

These three points require precision to make your top perfect!

One key point is to notch the facing well, especially at the shoulders, so it fits properly.

It is also necessary to secure it at the shoulders to prevent it from moving.

I found this sewing project relaxing to make and quick because it only took me a little afternoon to sew it.

For the more adventurous, I think we could easily transform this top into a dress to make a light and airy summer sewing project. Just saying...
