Review of the 2021 sewing projects: second part

We continue together the discovery of my favorite sewing projects from the second half of 2021. If you want to see those from the first semester, it's right here.

So, what do you think I selected for the second half of 2021?

I'll show you everything!

July

I knew there would be at least one month where I wouldn't be able to choose 😊 and July is one of them! Well, I have to say that due to no vacation this year, torrential rains in Belgium despite some beautiful days... I "treated" myself to more sewing sessions to lift my spirits! So July's production was a very good vintage! And then, how could I have chosen among these wonders? I suggest we talk about my Tamara dress from La Maison Victor, my "patchwork" Bahia fanny pack from petit patron and my Monceau cardigan from Cozy little world...

First sewing project of July, the Tamara dress. I really fell for this model as soon as the May/June issue of La Maison Victor was released (by the way, if you had to buy only one 2021 issue from La Maison Victor, get that one, all the women's models are stunning and varied!). I immediately loved its retro look with the chest gathers, the pretty waist shaping, the front button placket, and the small sleeves... I immediately pictured it in a slightly romantic floral fabric and since I had just received some American fabrics of very good quality and just the right amount of floral... I went for it and I absolutely do not regret the result. I can't wait for the nice days to come back so I can wear it again!

If you want to know more about Tamara, it's right here.

Next, let's talk about Bahia, a very practical fanny pack that accompanied me on walks all summer in parks and at (well-ventilated covid-compliant) parties with friends.

I chose this sewing project because it was a great upcycling for me. I had lots of tiny scraps of pretty floral Kokka popelines and I absolutely did not want to throw them away. So, I thought I would assemble them to create a floral fireworks display. I wanted to test the patchwork technique first on a small project, so the fanny pack was just perfect!

If you want to know more about Bahia and the technique used for assembly, it's right here.

Finally, I have to tell you about Monceau, my cardigan in Mind The Maker herringbone jersey 😊. For the little story, I received this coupon from my colleagues Karin and Greta when I left my hospital job to devote myself to C'est du Joly! And they introduced me to the incredible quality of this Danish brand; so, I started looking for a cardigan pattern that would do it justice... but also looking for suppliers who would allow me to put these wonders for sale in the shop 😊

I am really happy with this combination that allowed me to sew a comfortable cardigan that I love to snuggle into.

August

In August, I invited you to sew your pencil case for back to school in September using scraps of poplin and to use zippers by the meter that I find so practical! You will find them in the shop from the YKK brand and a blog article to explain how to use them 😊.

It's a simple, quick, and nice sewing project. I love my pencil case so much that it has become "the official one" that sits next to my sewing machine. I keep my chalk pen, my rotary cutter, my measuring tape, my compass... basically all those little things I often need and that easily spread out in the room if you don't have a place to store them...

If you also want to make yours, it's right here.

September

It was time for sewing underwear and I wrote an article on this topic to make easy-to-access underwear.

For my part, I wanted to try making men's boxers and I made one for my dad in a leftover jersey from the shop. I chose the Jacques boxer which is simple to sew and well designed by the creator. I had stocked up for the occasion on super soft boxer elastics, with a great quality/price ratio. Since you liked them so much, they are still available in the shop in a wide range of colors.

I know I will make more Jacques boxers in the future, especially for my boyfriend. If you want to know more about Jacques it's right here.

October

In October, it was great because I was able to make a pattern that had been waiting for me for a very long time... the Gotham cape from the late (and missed) brand Louis Antoinette. This project was patiently waiting with the other pattern envelopes for its time to come and when we had to find an original couple costume for Halloween, we decided to be Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf (from Thriller, feel free to watch the clip, you'll understand why I also made a yellow sweatshirt for my boyfriend).

Of course, it's a costume, but still, I wanted top-notch finishes! So I made bias tape matching the hood lining and bound all the seams. I wanted what was created for dressing up to be able to join the classic wardrobe and I am not afraid to walk around with a red cape and my five-foot tall self even if I occasionally see smiles 😊.

November

In November, I only made a sweatshirt for my godson Martin for Saint Nicholas Day. November was not a good month for sewing projects. As I explained in my article on 2022 resolutions, my workshop was very messy and as a result, it disturbed my desire to sew. A big tidy-up later, the creative energy returned with a much more productive December 😊. It just goes to show how much the work environment really changes everything!

That said, I am very happy with Martin's little sweatshirt made from sweatshirt scraps; a great way to make use of large or smaller scraps of sweatshirt, french terry and various jersey.

If you want to know more about using your jersey scraps, it's right here.

December

With my energy restored, I sewed quite a bit in December and I haven't shown you everything yet 😊 but what I'd like to share with you is the third pair of jeans for my boyfriend that I gave him for his 40th birthday.

I am very proud of the topstitching work, the pocket design... All the materials to make it come from the shop. I used black denim, fluorescent Gütermann threadsdenim organ needles, rivets, YKK zipper and jeans buttons.

I am really happy with the result and to have pleased my boyfriend who loves pockets 😊. As soon as the weather gets a bit better, we'll do a photo session to show you him wearing them.

If you want to know more about sewing denim and making jeans, it's right here.

This concludes the recap of my favorite sewing projects of 2021. And you, do you have favorite sewing projects made in 2021? What would you like to sew in 2022?
