My resolutions for 2021

In 2020, I launched my challenge of resolutions for the year 2020 with more or less success in keeping them.

So, caught up in the game, I will do it again... will you play along with me? Let's go!

First resolution in two parts ;-)

 1. I no longer buy printed or PDF patterns on a whim, telling myself that the model is beautiful and it would be great to sew it...

 2. I sew the PDF and printed patterns I already have in stock   In my opinion, I already have enough for all of 2021 or even 2022 to sew those I already have! And that's not counting:

  • those I will buy to sew right away (I will stick to it -> when I buy; I sew it immediately! Which will imply that I have the right fabric... this will lead us to other resolutions, I can feel it)
  •  my subscription to Maison Victor which inspires me with every issue
  •  the made-to-measure patterns that I increasingly enjoy creating because they allow me to bring my ideas to life.

To be honest, I have accumulated quite a few printed patterns that I haven't sewn yet, such as:

  • The Nuage coat from Coralie Bijasson
  • The Nadine jacket from Coralie Bijasson
  • The Nanga jacket from Mondial tissu
  • The Sierra dress from Maison Fauve
  • A vintage Vogue kitchen apron
  • A vintage Vogue dress
  • The Gotham cape from the late brand Louis Antoinette
  •  …

PDF patterns are even worse because I forget what I bought even if I file them well on my computer...
The biggest problem for me is not having them in sight. As a result, I sometimes order patterns that look alike. It would have been better to take a more "basic" pattern and adapt it to make different variations.

Second resolution

I continue on my momentum to reduce my personal fabric stock.

2020 allowed me to no longer see my stock grow; it must be said that the lockdown helped because I really like bringing back coupons of fabric from my travels. And this year… well, there were few excursions.  In short, after this year of stock stabilization, I’m moving on to the year of slimming down ;-) I make the resolution to only buy fabric that I won’t have in stock like jersey, or some more technical fabrics for a very specific project.

I want to reduce my coupons of Japanese fabrics from my personal stock that I love so much that sometimes I don’t dare cut into them… and yet, the point of having beautiful fabrics is still to wear them, right?  And then, I no longer really have excuses regarding a potential lack of sewing experience… so this year, we’re going to cut into treasures!

Third resolution

Down with scraps! The year 2020 was favorable for using fabric scraps; because like many seamstresses, I made masks that helped me significantly reduce the stock.

I also worked on maximizing the use of coupons by:

I really want to keep this momentum for 2021. I was thinking of making a patchwork blanket in 2021 with the small fabric scraps I have left. It could progress gradually with the projects… it would be fun, right?

And for this third resolution, I would also like to find a storage solution that really holds up for scraps. It will surely be a subject of an article for 2021. Stay tuned!

Fourth resolution

I continue to train myself. It sounds strange to say but after 6 years of sewing with different teachers, many hours on my machine and self-taught reading and work, well you have to keep challenging yourself… Otherwise, you stay on your laurels and no longer evolve.

For this, I set myself goals:

  • to read technical and quality books (and first of all those that joined my library in 2020)
  • to carry out innovative and complex projects with new techniques to learn and master
  • to create custom patterns from scratch to progress in pattern-making
  • finally, I also sincerely hope to be able to do another internship in 2021 or 2022 with a competent professional allowing me to improve my sewing and pattern-making techniques.

Fifth resolution

And this one concerns you ;-) , continuing the development of the blog and the shop by offering you:

Write to me in the comments which items/advice you would like to see published in 2021 and the haberdashery/fabrics products you would like to find in my shop. I will be happy to try to respond in 2021; it will be another challenge for me!

So, ready to take on the challenge with me this year?
