My Tina jacket from Dress Your Body in quilted velvety fabric!

You know I ❤️ really love Christine's patterns from the Dress Your Body brand. When she told me about the release of two new patterns during the summer holidays (the Strike pants and the Tina jacket), I had to take part!

And when we received the velvety quilted fabrics... the combination was obvious! It would be a floral Tina to keep warm this autumn!

So discover with my Tina!

The Tina pattern

Tina is a fairly short jacket pattern, bolero style, to wear casually. Tina is an unlined jacket and therefore easy and quick to make. Two patch pockets are available that you can place vertically or diagonally on the jacket. Otherwise, the jacket is fully bound and very quick to sew since it consists of only 2 pattern pieces!

In the seamstress's basket

Tina was designed to be sewn with medium to heavy weight jacket fabrics, that is, from 200 to 400g/m2. It is necessary for the fabric to retain some flexibility so that Tina "drapes" well.

The Tina pattern pairs very well with jacquard and quilted fabrics.

The recommended yardage to sew Tina is

- FABRICS with 110cm width: Sizes 34 and 36: 175 cm / Sizes 38 to 46: 190 cm
- FABRICS with 140cm width: Sizes 34 to 38: 150 cm / Sizes 40 and 42: 60 cm / Size 44: 170 cm / Size 46: 180 cm

You can choose to bind only the outer seams of the jacket or also the inner seams. In each case, the length of bias tape needed (in meters) is given below:

- Outer bias: Size 34: 3.7m / Size 36: 3.8m / Size 38: 3.9m / Size 40: 4m / Size 42: 4m / Size 44: 4.1m / Size 46: 4.2m
- Inner bias: Sizes 34 to 38: 3.5m / Sizes 40 to 44: 3.6m / Size 46: 3.7m
- TOTAL BIAS: Size 34: 7.2m / Size 36: 7.3m / Size 38: 7.4m / Size 40: 7.5m / Size 42: 7.6m / Size 44: 7.8m / Size 46: 7.9m

Sewing level and technical points

Tina is suitable for all sewing levels because beginners will enjoy sewing their first jacket and learning to apply bias tape. Meanwhile, more experienced sewers will be happy to sew a nice jacket in no time!

For my part, I sewed Tina in one afternoon; the hardest part for me was waiting for my quilted fabric to dry so I could cut it and start sewing!

When sewing Tina, you will need to:
- sewing thick and possibly quilted fabric
- attaching bias tape on the fold

and that's it! Yes, Tina is made of only two pieces! Christine designed her pattern very well and it fits perfectly!

My version and experience

I chose to sew Tina in size 36

I selected the soft and floral quilted fabric from the shop. I hesitated a long time about the color of the bias tape: orange, fuchsia, or purple? I finally chose fuchsia, which was the most harmonious with the lining of the quilted fabric. I picked a thread the same color as the bias tape so my seams would be almost invisible.

Once the supplies were chosen, I was super motivated to sew this jacket because I loved the pattern/fabric combination. I loved spending my afternoon sewing with this soft velvety quilted fabric under my presser foot. What a pleasure to run your hands over this cozy fabric.

The longest part of sewing Tina is attaching the bias tape on the fold, which I sewed carefully in two steps to get perfect finishes!

I'm quite proud of my topstitching, for which I lengthened the stitch length.

I'm really delighted with my little sewing project! And how soft this velvety quilted fabric is!
