Sewing report for the months of June and July 2020

It’s time to review the first two months of this summer 2020.

In June, I sewed quite a bit for my shop cestdujoly.be and I was really able to put to use my patternmaking training started in February at IAMPatterns.

So I made for myself and a few clients the Doudou skirts

Originally from Mons, it was important to me to be able to “celebrate” despite Covid-19 and the cancellation of festivities, our famous Doudou listed as a UNESCO World Heritage.

So I decided to “wear” the Doudou and its dragon as a sign of support for my hometown.

I made others custom-made and personalized for clients and I put the Doudou fabric on sale in my shop to allow those who want to sew their own creations with this Oeko-Tex certified fabric.

It’s always very important to me to respond as accurately as possible to customers’ wishes, whether in terms of shape, details, colors, or matching accessories.

I also sewed a pretty skirt for Abeline in a floral fabric. I’m very happy with the color combination and the finished look of the skirt. The little rolled hem at the bottom gives it a charming romantic touch.

And since it’s not just for girls, Ugo, the son of a friend, also received a little elastic-waist pants to be the chicest for the Doudou.

In June, I was also lucky enough to renew the collaboration with the brand La Petite Frambise by testing the Elsa pattern. A super nice romper to sew with its little ruffles, which can be made in both a girl’s and a woman’s version.

The fabric comes from the mercerie le chien vert in Molenbeek and I really enjoyed matching the bias tape, the rolled hem, and the buttons. I love this part of sewing, which is choosing the right notions.

And to finish the sewing projects for June, I’m telling you about the pattern for the Nude dress by Vanessa Pouzet. I was charmed by its design right when the pattern was released. So I made a tube dress and I’m currently thinking about making the ruffled top version.

In July, I couldn’t resist making some sweatshirts, you know my passion for them. Since I had brought in Belgian-colored sweatshirt fabric called Drache Nationale in my shop and the July 21st national holiday festivities were very limited... I decided once again to wear the colors of Belgium in my heart but especially on me ;-)

My boyfriend also got his own version. He chose the design and color combinations himself.

The fabric is still available in my shop and it is Oeko-Tex certified. So it is even suitable for the little ones.

Finally, I sewed 2 dresses to go on a road trip in the south of France with the Divina pattern from La Maison Victor. I really enjoyed making them because this pattern is really fun to sew and the dress has everything I love, starting with pockets and buttons.

I made the first version from a pretty tropical coupon that was patiently waiting for the right project in my stash.

The second version was sewn from a Japanese fabric from my shop cestdujoly.be.

I completely fell for this fabric when I brought it in, and I knew it would go under my scissors and needles ;-)

They both accompanied me in the warmth of the South with matching masks.

To conclude this review, I will simply mention the masks that I make like many other dressmakers. Wearing them is becoming almost a habit.

Especially now that wearing a mask has become mandatory in all common areas (on the street, etc.) in Brussels for people over 12 years old.
