It is with a bit of delay that I present to you my sewing review for the months of August and September.
It must be said that this year is really a strange year between the health crisis, the opening of my shop, and the start of my first sewing courses... In short, I produce less and probably better because I am thinking more and more about my projects.
What do I need? In what material? How will I match it?... all these questions I wasn’t asking myself last year.
It just goes to show that this crisis has had the merit of pushing us to rethink our ways of consuming.
That said, I still sewed this late summer.
In particular, a top pattern I had spotted a long time ago: the Ségur top from Little Cozy World. I had fallen for a pretty Japanese double gauze with mimosa patterns that I had brought into the shop. As soon as I received it, I planned to sew a little top from this beautiful coupon. And not to stop there, I repeated the process by sewing the little brother in a lovely Japanese coupon brought back from there that was desperately waiting for the right project! Front buttoning for the mimosa and back buttoning for the blue.
I am keeping this pattern with its many possibilities very carefully to sew other versions for myself starting this spring; because I am hooked.
Part of September was dedicated to the second part of my pattern making internship with Marie-Emilienne from IAM Patterns; focusing on the basic bodice, sleeves, and all kinds of collars.
What a wonderful experience and what a beautiful break in our sometimes so busy lives! Beyond the internship, it was also a joy to pause and take a little time for myself.
So, I made muslins of:
- sleeveless and collarless top
- shirt
- bodice with sleeve and collar
I dream of having some time to draft my first coat made from A to Z. I hope to find time for that in November!
From these muslins, I made a final version in October that you could see on the blog! I used a pretty cotton from Dashwood Studio with unicorns and stars.
I also sewed beautiful custom skirts for a client for the shop.
We had planned a flared skirt with a slightly low waist. And in the end, two skirts were made, one in blue and one in orange.
I also made a lovely custom order of furoshiki for a client. It was really enjoyable to bring all those beautiful fabrics from the shop to life. I loved this experience. So, I offer furoshiki in the shop and via message, they can be custom ordered with the fabrics you like.
I also sewed a small pouch for myself, or more precisely finished a small pouch that was patiently waiting for the neon pink thread to complete it. It was already well advanced and was finished in 30 minutes.
I use it to store my small pattern-making supplies.
Finally, during the month of September, I worked on and sewed 4 projects for my courses.
I started teaching the "sewing basics" course at the beginning of October at Chipote et Papote in Etterbeek (Brussels, Belgium).
The first session ends this week and it has been a wonderful experience for me to share my knowledge and love of sewing. I hope this beautiful collaboration will last a long time, because I really enjoy it!
